Patent for an invention is the grant of a property right to the inventor, issued by the Patent Office of concerned Government in his territory. The term of a new patent is 20 years from the date on which the application for the patent was filed in India. The Patents are generally concerned with functional and technical aspects of products and processes and must fulfill specific conditions to be granted. Patent rights are territorial.
